Shipping from China to Europe in transit through Russia and Kazakhstan

International rail transport is now a reliable transport solution linking remote regions from each other. The shift towards imports of cargo from the Asian region has given an additional impetus to the development of container transport by rail from the Far East towards the central regions of Russia.

As a transport solution, rail transport is used to deliver goods from China to Europe in transit through Russia and Kazakhstan. Similarly, this mode of transport is used to deliver cargo from European countries to the Asian region. In recent years, rail services have become a significant competitor to sea container transport.

To any EU country, via Belarus and back

The delivery of goods from Europe to Russia can also be done by rail, despite the difference in gauge - there are terminals at the Belarus-EU border that allow transhipment of containers from the narrow European to the wide Russian gauge. The wide network of railways in Europe allows cargoes from any European country to be delivered to transit terminals for transhipment, which in modern conditions is similar to road transport in the direction of Belarus and Russia.

For shipments by rail from Europe to Russia, it is sufficient to arrange for the empty container to be loaded at the shipper in any European country and the container with the cargo to be delivered to the railway station in the country of origin. From there, the container will travel through the network towards the EU border and, after being reloaded onto Russian platforms, will be delivered to the destination station in the Russian Federation. From the station, the container will be transported by road to the recipient's warehouse for unloading and, after unloading, will be returned empty to the station. Thus, the process is similar in principle to a standard sea container consignment.

In recent months, maritime multimodal logistics from the European direction have seriously decreased due to the departure of many sea lines. Road transport is subject to a constantly changing sanctions environment, which has an impact on pricing and availability.

In these circumstances, rail transport from Europe is one of the additional options for delivering non-sanctioned goods to Russia.
